Dan Byrne - The Joiners

We were lucky enough to get a pass for the Dan Byrne concert in Southampton so off we trundled to Southampton. It was match day for the football club so parking near the venue was impossible. We finally got parked and made our way to the venue only to find Dan himself standing outside. A quick chat and a handshake and in we went. The joiners is a lovely little place with a capacity of about 200. Support came from Kit Trigg who we have seen before a couple of years ago. They were followed by the female fronted Muddi Brooke, an alternative grunge outfit. Then the headline, Dan Byrne took to the stage. Hailed as a "voice of a generation" by Planet Rock and compared to the late great Chris Cornell. With a short list of released songs and some unknown songs from his upcoming debut album he put on a spectacular show. He seemed very humble and thanked the fans for coming several times and talked about how blown away he has been with the response his music is getting. The lighting in the Joiners all came from behind the band so some of the images ended up quite dark but we did manage to get a pretty decent set out of the night and I would happily work with Dan and crew the next time he is in the area.
